Why Me Lord?
Most of us treat our hardest seasons as lost time. We survived them, and we’d rather not look back. When we ask God why, we usually mean why did this happen to me, and we often settle on an answer that says something hard about God.
Scripture suggests the question may not end with us.
Why Me, Lord? is a Bible study on suffering, grace, and the comfort God means for us to pass on, built around 2 Corinthians 1:3-4. It follows four people who asked the same question in different ways: a young woman who beat cancer but couldn’t celebrate, a faithful preacher who never saw the revival he prayed for, a boy growing up in poverty with an alcoholic stepfather who became an atheist, and Kris Kristofferson, whose song asked why God had been so gracious to him.
The study doesn’t explain away suffering or promise that every question will be answered. It takes the question seriously, then shows how our trials give us knowledge and credibility with people who are hurting the way we once did.
This study explores:
● what the way we ask “why me?” reveals about what we believe about God
● why David could ask how long God would hide His face and still end the psalm trusting Him
● how Joseph came to see that what others meant for evil, God meant for good
● why Jesus told His disciples they were asking the wrong question about the man born blind
● why the comfort God gives us in 2 Corinthians 1 was never meant to stop with us
● how having suffered gives us credibility with people who are hurting
● why faithfulness, not the size of the harvest, is the measure of a ministry
● what it means to go home and tell others what the Lord has done for you
