Daily Prayer Life for Spiritual Warfare

Daily Prayer Life for Spiritual Warfare

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.Ephesians 6:12 NKJV

Here are Some Tips for Praying Like a Spiritual Warrior

We should all be praying constantly (1Thessalonians 5:17, Psalm 55:17) but try to dedicate prayer time at least twice a day.  Morning when you rise and evening when you prepare for sleep. Remember you are an important soldier in the Spiritual War.

Morning Prayer: This is your war room briefing where you discuss your battle plans with your commander, Jesus.  This time with the Lord will prepare you for the spiritual battles you will face during the day.  At a minimum cover these topics:

1.    Prepare for spiritual battle—expect them and go in with power and clear purpose. (Numbers 32:27)

2.      Start with praise and thanksgiving to set your atmosphere (Psalm 100:4).

3.      Ask for the Holy Spirit’s guidance and discernment for your day (John 16:13). Go over your expected activities, places you are visiting, people you will meet, problems you know about. Do any of these increase the possibility of the enemy’s attacks?

4.      Pray on the armor of God (Ephesians 6:10–18),piece by piece.

5.      Declare Scripture over your day (e.g., Psalm118:24, Isaiah 54:17).  As you discover others, use them.

6.      Ask for boldness, wisdom, and protection against temptation and spiritual attacks.  It’s OK to try to avoid strong ones you discern (Luke 22:40, James 1:5).

Evening Prayer:   Use this time with the Lord to debrief the battles of the day and reset. Celebrate your victories, acknowledge your failures, and recharge spiritually.  At a minimum cover these topics:

   1.      Reflect on your day honestly before God (Psalm139:23–24).

2.      Confess sins and receive forgiveness and cleansing (1 John 1:9).

3.      Thank God for His grace and any answered prayers. (2 Corinthians 9:15)

4.      Ask for strength and peace for restful sleep and renewed strength for tomorrow (Psalm 4:8, Isaiah 40:31).

5.      Surrender burdens or anxieties (1Peter 5:7).

In General

Praying consistently is more important than the amount time you spend praying. However, we are supposed to pray constantly. The morning and evening prayer times are ideal for preparing for you day and then for your rest.  So, even 5 or 10 minutes of intense focus can prepare your whole day.  Use a journal to record prayers, visions, or impressions from the Holy Spirit.  Pray in the Spirit in each session if you’re baptized in the Holy Spirit (Jude 1:20,1 Corinthians 14:4).  During each session, expect God to respond.  Remember, prayer is a dialogue between you and the Lord. Listen as well as speak (John 10:27).

There are no shortcuts.  Battling in the Spirit is one of the most difficult things we can do but the rewards of doing so are invaluable. We at S&S Pastoral Services can help you create and follow a plan designed specifically for you.  One that gives you the best chance of success.

Many Blessings…
