5 Tips for Meaningful Change
Repentance involves change. It involves taking a close look at ourselves. We must examine our habits, attitudes, spiritual, mental and physical health and deciding which of these things must change and which can stay. It can be along and difficult process that requires faith, wisdom and discipline to carryout. Here is a list of 5 important tips to help shape your change process. (All Bible verses are quoted from the NKJV)
Here are Five steps for Meaningful Change
1. StartSmall and Be Consistent. Repentance is a long process. Don’t try to change everything all at once. Focus on one thing at a time and doit well.
Andwhatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that fromthe Lord you will receive the reward of inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. Colossians 3:23-24
2. RenewYour Mind Daily. Change begins with your thoughts. Feed your spirit with truth and grace. Avoid media and situations that negatively affect your mood.
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you. - Philippians 4:8
3. Pray for Strength and Guidance. Pray daily. Ask God to help you overcome resistance and build new habits. Talk to God about your daily activities. In the morning talk to Him about what can or will happen. In the evening, pray about what did happen and how the next day could be better.
I can do all this through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13
4. Seek Accountability. Share your plan with a man or woman of God who can encourage and support you. Someone who won’t judge you but will tell you the truth, even if it hurts.
As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend. Proverbs 27:17
5. Focus on the Big Picture. Let your habits match your calling and purpose in God.
Therefore, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all for the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31
